Last year, the Russian cloud services market, including public and private clouds, grew by 25% and reached $804 mio, according to a study by IDC Russia Cloud Services Market 2019-2023 Forecast and 2018 Analysis. At the same time, in 2018, companies spent $470.3 mio to pay for professional IT services related to the clouds. Public clouds accounted for 85% of all enterprise expenses and 15% fell for private ones. IDC expects that by the end of 2019, companies' spending on cloud services, in general, will increase up to $1.6 billion.
Last year, the largest share in the public cloud market was held by “software as a service” category (SaaS) and represented 59.8%. It was followed by “infrastructure as a service” category (IaaS) – 29.7%. The least falls on “platform as a service” category (PaaS) – 10.6%. These figures are stated in the IDC report. In private clouds the ratio is the same. The largest share falls on SaaS, the second largest market is IaaS, the third is PaaS.
Researchers recorded the largest volume of cloud consumption among retail and wholesale trading companies, the financial sector and industries. "Amid the economic uncertainty, enterprises are looking for most effective ways to do business. Platform cloud services are becoming the basis of such changes. They enable companies to quickly adapt digital technologies to overcome business problems," comments Dmitry Gavrilov, Head of Cloud Research of IDC in Russia and CIS. IDC experts believe that in 2019 Russian companies business spending on public and private cloud services will grow by 24%, and by 2023 they forecast an average annual market growth rate of 14.6% (CAGR).
Companies tend to use public clouds to gain access to new technologies, including container virtualization, distributed databases, big data analytics, artificial intelligence and the Internet of things. This is essential for business in order to maintain competitiveness in the long run and increase labor efficiency. Because of the persistence of public clouds, the need for specialized industry solutions is growing. According to IDC experts, the creation of a partnership ecosystem for IaaS and, above all, for PaaS markets is a key factor in the scalability and success of the cloud business. This motivates cloud service providers to pay more attention to partners involved in independent software development.
Oleg Motovilov, director of MTS Cloud cloud provider (MTS PJSC), believes that cloud platform services can become the cornerstone of digital transformation: they expand the capabilities of IaaS, simplify technological implementation, support and operation. According to the evaluator, platform services reduce IT administration costs and allow companies to develop and run business applications and client services much faster. For example, container services have changed the approach to development and launch of applications in the clouds. This approach helps both accelerate the process of introducing new services to the market and reduce the cost of computing resources.
